Music comes from many things
From boxes, tubes and spoons,
Let’s make a homemade orchestra
Then play ourselves some tunes!

Getting Started:

There are a whole lot of musical instruments you can make with things lying around the house, from boxes, cans and cartons in the recycling bin, to spoons, beans and bottles in the kitchen. Here are some of the ideas Boxie and his friends have come up with:

  • Make sure the bottle is as dry as possible inside.
  • If you have time to prepare in advance, put a tablespoon of rice grains in it overnight, this will soak up the last of the drink from the bottle!
  • Once you’re happy it’s dry, pour the beans/rice /corn into the bottle and close the lid tightly.
  • Now, using the tissue, PVA glue and tinsel, decorate the outside of the bottle.

When the decorations on the outside are dry, you’re ready to shake to the rhythm hold it by the bottleneck! And shake the beans/rice/corn around the inside. Better still, use two – you can start your own Salsa Band! (And ‘salsa’ also means ‘sauce’ so it’ll go well with those beans!)

Some Suggestions:

Did you use corn, rice or beans? If you’re making more than one why not use something different in each bottle and see if they sound different?
