What You'll Need

  • Children’s drawings of people, animals or monsters!
  • Cardboard
  • PVA glue
  • Scissors
  • 60 mins
  • Ages 6 - 8
  • Inside
  • A Little Messy
Some puppets have strings from above
Others fit over your hand,
But these ones have fingers for legs
So they can walk and dance and stand.

Getting Started:

Do you have any drawings lying around? If not, why not do some new ones of people, animals or monsters. Draw them so that your fingers would be the right size for their legs! When you’ve done the drawing:

• Glue the drawing onto a piece of cardboard
• Cut out the shape of the charcter leaving a base at the end.
• Now cut two holes about 1cm apart at the bottom of drawing, where the character’s legs would be. Make them large enough to fit your fingers.
• Put two fingers into the holes. Now your puppet can walk and dance and stand.

Some Suggestions:

You can make lots of walking puppets – one for each hand means two each for everyone. Then make up stories and perform them as plays!
