Crystal Making

Getting Started:

• Carefully stir the sugar into the cup of boiling water so that it dissolves fully.
• Mix in a few drops of food colouring and leave the liquid to cool down to room temperature.
• Now arrange your sticks or strings around the bowl, you could use some of each if you want!
• If you’re using string and it looks like it’s going to fall into the bowl, tie one end to a teaspoon and let the other end hang into the bowl.
• Now pour in the sugar solution, slowly and carefully. It should cover at least half the length of the sticks or string.
• Cover the bowl with a plate or tea towel and leave it to stand for a few days – try not to peek!

Come back to it three days later and see what has happened!
